This section is an overview on using the tool with a prism and total station. The tool can be utilized in a variety of ways with a prism and total station.


The overall configuration height can be found with a collector by staking out a known located manhole rim while the prism height is set to "0". Read the value in stake out mode, set the found value as the prism height (for instance "8.15"), and then invert. Staking out a rim, photo examples:




Direct shot is taken on the bottom of the invert. Or simply stakeout rim and record depth in the field book. Use a hand level along the vertical rod for plumbing purposes. Here is a diagram of a basic invert:




To get a pipe measure push the rod tip upward towards the inside upper lip. While staking the previous shot, look at the difference between the pipe invert and top of lip to determine the size. Alternatively, simply stakeout rim and record depth differences between pipe invert and pipe upper lip. Here is a diagram of a pipe measure:

Note: A bottom cap or bolt with washer is recommended for deep inverting.
